Call for Applications for the Scientific, Technical, and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF)

The European Commission has launched a call for applications to renew the membership of the Scientific, Technical, and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF). This committee plays a crucial role in providing scientific and technical advice to the European Union on fisheries management and related policies.

What is the STECF?
The STECF is a group of independent experts who provide advice in various key areas of fisheries, including:

  • Stock assessments and management plans: analysis of fish populations to establish sustainable quotas.
  • Ecosystem-based fisheries management: assessment of the impact of fishing on the marine ecosystem.
  • Fishing gear technology: development and evaluation of selective and sustainable fishing equipment.
  • Socioeconomic aspects: analysis of the effects of policies on coastal communities.
  • Aquaculture: evaluation of the sustainability and development of aquaculture in Europe.

Who Can Apply?
Professionals with training and experience in fields such as marine and fisheries biology, fisheries economics, and fishing technology, among others, are invited to apply. Interested individuals should submit their applications by December 31, 2024, including a cover letter and a selection criteria form. The Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) will review applications and conduct interviews with the most qualified candidates.
