The Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI is now available

tecnologia een

The European Commission has today received the final version of the Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI, a voluntary tool developed by thirteen independent experts with input from over one thousand stakeholders, including model providers, small and medium-sized enterprises, academics, AI safety experts, rights holders, and civil society organizations.

The Code is designed to help the industry comply with the rules of the AI Act regarding general-purpose AI, which will enter into force on August 2, 2025. The rules will become enforceable by the Commission's AI Office one year later for new models and two years later for existing models. The aim is to ensure that general-purpose AI models introduced into the European market — including the most powerful ones — are safe and transparent.

The Code consists of three chapters: Transparency and Copyright — both aimed at all general-purpose AI model providers — and Security and Protection, which are relevant only for a limited number of providers of the most advanced models.
